The historic Freeman “Walking Y” Ranch offers recreational and hunting opportunities as well as livestock grazing. Approximately 4,009 acres, the Ranch is nestled in the foothills of the Gabilan Mountain Range, some 10 miles east of the small rural community of San Ardo. There are at least 5 developed springs that provide water for both livestock and wildlife, with a developed well that is piped to both homesteads as well as a series of tanks and watering troughs. The Hewitt Valley portion of the Ranch features open fields with scattered live oak trees and is very scenic. Remaining portions of the ranch are steep land with scattered blue oak trees and brush covered areas that provide habitat for many small game species. Some of these species that can be hunted include blacktail deer, doves, quail and wild boar.
